I advice to use the following system for cost and experience in using the items (I love microduino): Aside from the black snakes getting the eggs, there are those pesky fox and coyotes. I grew up opening the door in the morning and closing the door for our chickens everyday. Oh, and once its done, no matter if its code based or simple IC based, I'll offer the diagram for free for anybody to use as well! If there is a simple IC that can handle that simple operation instead of using a controller, please lead me that way! Would save even more time vs programming! Something like a TC622EPA chip, but that will switch outputs with the LDR voltage reference instead of temp. I plan on using a couple PCB relays for handing the reversing polarity of the motor. The reason for high during both is to have power open and close on the motor. I'm going to use a LDR for the sensor, and to save on battery power simply use 2 limit switches (utilizing the NC circuit) to break the high outputs once the door is in position either up or down. Really, all I need the micro controller to do is to to put one output high at night, and switch to another output high during daylight. I really don't have too much time to fiddle with this, so I guess I'm looking for some serious help. I've made a good amount of small electronic devices, but I'm very, VERY new to programming. I'm sorry, I'm terribly new at writing code and such. There are these doors on the market, but they start at about $225, and needing more than one, it seems obvious to make something instead! I want to run these on battery power, 12VDC. I am going to need 3 of these, so I do want to put the program on something like an ATTINY for cost reasons. After loosing a few of our chickens to predators (due to me not getting the coop door closed soon enough at night), I really need to make an automatic chicken coop door opener/closer that is based on daylight.
